Raiders offensive coordinator Greg Olson noncommittal on Marshawn Lynch

ALAMEDA, Calif. -- The Oakland Raiders have yet to decide whether or not to employ a quarterback coach, what with coach Jon Gruden seen as a QB whisperer who will call plays and Greg Olson, who is coming on as the offensive coordinator, having worked with Carr in his rookie season.

The Raiders also seem undecided yet on whether to retain running back Marshawn Lynch, who has one year remaining on his contract.

Then again, Gruden and Olson have only been on the scene for a week, right?

"We'll sit down with the entire coaching staff once the coaching staff is in place and all in the building and we'll do a thorough job of evaluating the personnel that we have in the building, the personnel that we have on the team," Olson said in a conference call with Bay Area reporters on Wednesday.

"I'd be doing Marshawn a disservice if I were to comment on what I thought of his play this previous season. Until we sit down, like I said, and do a real thorough evaluation and watching every carry that he's had and every catch opportunity to catch the football or run with the football, I really would not be making an educated comment on something like that right now."

Gruden said in his introductory media conference last week he had yet to meet Lynch, who rushed for 891 yards in his first season out of retirement last year, though Lynch did come on strong in the second half of the season.

In fact, if you project his stats from his final eight games over a full 16-game season, Lynch has 1,250 rushing yards and 10 rushing TDs. He turns 32 in April and is due a base salary of $4 million for 2018 while carrying a salary cap number of $6 million. A $1 million roster bonus is due on the fifth day of the new league year, on March 18.

"Once the staff's in, we'll take a look at every position across the board," Olson said, "and that's when we'll try to decide where our needs are and where we can get better at."
