FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- The New England Patriots placed cornerback Jonathan Jones on injured reserve and signed punt returner Bernard Reedy to the 53-man roster to fill his spot on the roster.

Jones, one of the fastest players on the team, sustained an undisclosed injury in Saturday's divisional-round playoff victory over the Tennessee Titans. His primary contributions come on special teams, and he's been the No. 4 cornerback in recent weeks after being in the No. 3 spot earlier in the season.

Jones, who made the team as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn in 2016, played 41.3 percent of the defensive snaps in the regular season and was lauded at one point by coach Bill Belichick for his knack for finishing plays on passes thrown in his direction. Jones had 36 tackles, one interception and one sack.

As for filling his role on special teams as the Patriots prepare to face the Jacksonville Jaguars in Sunday's AFC Championship Game, captain Matthew Slater said, "It’s not going to be one guy. He does a lot of things for us and he does a lot of things well. And he’s done that since he’s gotten here -- he’s been consistent. He’s improved day after day. It’s going to take a lot of guys stepping up, doing their job just a little bit better. A few guys in different roles."

Johnson Bademosi, a six-year NFL veteran who was inactive in Saturday's game, projects to fill part of the void left by Jones' absence.

As for Reedy, he was originally signed to the practice squad Nov. 22 and elevated to the active roster Dec. 2. He appeared in two games for the Patriots and totaled 32 yards on four punt returns.
