GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Just about everyone will get out of town this week during the bye before the Packers return to work in advance of their Nov. 6 Monday Night Football game against the Detroit Lions.

Not Brett Hundley.

“I’ll probably stay around here,” Hundley said after his first career start -- Sunday's 26-17 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Although he probably won’t have any receivers to work with since, coach Mike McCarthy is expected to give the team off most of this week, there’s plenty that the Packers' new starting quarterback can do during the bye.

“I’m sure me and Mike will sit down and go over the game, like we always do, and we’ll talk and we’ll figure out what we can do more of and what we don’t want to do going forward,” Hundley said. “So that’s something that we’ll figure out down the road.”

That the bye comes after Hundley’s first start could be well-timed for Aaron Rodgers’ replacement. He and McCarthy will have two weeks to prepare for the Lions, for another home game. They will no doubt break down every throw in Hundley's 12 for 25 performance for just 87 yards and an interception.

The Packers fell out of a share of first place in the NFC North. At 4-3, they trail the first-place Vikings (5-2), who also currently own the tiebreaker with the Packers, based on Minnesota's head-to-head win in Week 6 -- when Rodgers broke his collarbone. The Lions, who had their bye this past weekend, are 3-3, while the surprising Chicago Bears moved to 3-4 with Sunday’s win over the Carolina Panthers.

“Just because this game [was lost] and we’re 4-3 now, we still have everything in front of us,” Hundley said. “We’ve got our division games in front of us, and we could still win the division and make the playoffs.”

At least Hundley has that first start behind him.

“Got it under my belt,” he said. “Didn’t win, obviously. We’ve got to be better, and we will, but we got the first one out of the way. It didn’t go the way we planned, and we’ve got to look at the film and make some adjustments.”

McCarthy typically gives his team the entire week off -- after they review the film on Monday -- during the bye. He and his coaching staff spend an introspective few days on their self-scouting project, but this year, the offensive side of the ball will spend much of its time trying to figure how to win with Hundley.

Their next on-field work won’t come before Oct. 30; players are off through at least this Sunday.

McCarthy’s plan between now and then?

“Just keep working every day and stay focused on offense and try not to get outside of yourself,” McCarthy said.
