The Indianapolis Colts traded defensive end Henry Anderson to the New York Jets for a seventh-round pick, the 235th overall selection.

Instead of gambling a late-round pick on a lineman, the Jets traded the 235th selection to the Colts for Anderson, a third-round pick by Indianapolis in 2015. The only gamble here is Anderson’s health. He’s come back from two ACL injuries. Last season was cut short when he suffered a freak, season-ending bruised larynx injury that required surgery.

“I was lucky,” Anderson told the Indianapolis Star. “I didn’t think you could hurt your throat that bad. I thought I’d be fine in a few days, it’d go away. Then I got the call from the doctor after the scan. He told me what it was. I was pretty bummed. Right when I was starting to get comfortable."

Anderson appeared in nine games (eight starts) last season, finishing with two sacks, a forced fumble and 22 tackles. He was placed on injured reserve after the laryngeal fracture, which required surgery.

He has been cleared to return from the injury. His role with the Colts was unclear as the team is switching to a 4-3 defense under new defensive coordinator Matt Eberflus.

The Jets were 24th in rush defense last season. Anderson has 65 tackles in 29 games over three seasons. He posted both of his sacks and blocked a field goal attempt in the weeks before his season ended. At 6-foot-6, 300 pounds, Anderson has the ability to knock down passes at the line.
