FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Details are in with the two-year contract that wide receiver Kenny Britt signed with the New England Patriots, courtesy of ESPN's Adam Schefter:
Patriots are paying WR Kenny Britt a pro-rated portion of the veteran minimum $900,000 this year, then $1.5 million next year with chance to get to 2M with incentives, per source. Next year is Patriots' option; if not exercised, Britt becomes a UFA.

The biggest takeaway from the contract is that it comes with limited financial risk for the Patriots. They essentially get a chance to see how well Britt fits into their culture and learns, and then can decide whether they want to continue with him in 2018 at reasonable financial levels.
Considering that Britt signed a four-year, $32.5 million contract with the Browns in the offseason, it highlights how the Patriots are "buying low" with the contract.
Britt participated in his first practice with the Patriots on Wednesday, and is wearing No. 85. His former Rutgers teammate, Devin McCourty, shared his enthusiasm for Britt's arrival on Wednesday, but Britt himself wasn't available to reporters.
