Devin McCourty on Kenny Britt: Always good to add another Rutgers alum

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. -- Wide receiver Kenny Britt took part in his first practice with the New England Patriots on Wednesday, and he looked right at home. That's probably because he had so many familiar faces around him, like safety Devin McCourty.

While Britt wasn't available to answer questions from reporters Wednesday after arriving from a stint with the Cleveland Browns, McCourty was, and explained why he was happy to have him aboard.

"He’s a Rutgers guy. Do we need to expand on that? We know what that means," McCourty cracked.

The two were teammates at Rutgers under coach Greg Schiano, who is one of Bill Belichick's close friends. McCourty and Britt have stayed in contact since, and now they reunite.

"He’s a good guy, a joy to be around, always upbeat, always smiling ear-to-ear," said McCourty, who at 30 is a year older than Britt. "A physical guy, obviously big-bodied guy. I’m excited for him, the opportunity to come here and try to catch on. Obviously, it’s tough coming in at this point in the year, just trying to learn as much as possible and get out there. It’s always exciting to have a guy you played with in college as a teammate in the NFL."

Britt joins McCourty and safety Duron Harmon as Scarlet Knight alums on this season's team.
