Rumor Central: Mike James to stick with Suns?

The Phoenix Suns signed guard Mike James to a two-way contract at the beginning of July. James has played well enough so far this season that management has already decided to convert his deal to an NBA contract.

"It won't be a decision of whether we want to keep him or not," Suns general manager Ryan McDonough told 98.7 FM Arizona’s Sports Station. "The decision will be whether we can agree on a contract that is acceptable to us and to Mike and his agent. I think we’ll get there."

James, 27, has played overseas since going undrafted in 2012. The Suns have liked James for a while and were finally able to get him on their roster via the new two-way rule.

Through eight games, James is averaging 12.6 points, 4.0 rebounds and 2.6 rebounds. He's also shooting 42.3 percent from behind the 3-point line.

James' deal will likely be converted next month, as the max 45-day limit for two-way players to be on an NBA roster since the G League opened training camps will hit on Dec. 6.

"He's certainly proven that he's not only an NBA player -- that he’s a good NBA player, that he's a rotational NBA player,” McDonough said.
