Rumor Central: Wizards PF Markieff Morris to return soon?

Washington Wizards forward Markieff Morris, who is recovering from sports hernia surgery, participated in a pickup game during Tuesday's practice, which could be a sign he might soon be cleared by the team's training staff to join the active roster.

"He hit a couple of game winners. He's going pretty hard and he’s feeling great," Wizards head coach Scott Brooks told The Washington Post. "It's the next step of his progress and return to play."

Morris was given a timeline of 6-8 weeks to recover following surgery Sept. 22 to repair the sports hernia. Morris will hit the six-week mark next week when the Wizards return home from their West Coast road trip. The Wizards play the Suns on Nov. 1 and the Cavaliers on Nov. 3.

If Morris doesn't suffer any setbacks, could he be cleared to play next week?

"He's definitely moving in the right direction," Brooks said.

Until Morris is cleared to join the active roster and return to his starting power forward position, Brooks will likely continue to play Kelly Oubre Jr. with the first unit.
