The Philadelphia 76ers open their 2017-18 NBA regular season Wednesday against the Washington Wizards. When discussing Joel Embiid's status, head coach Brett Brown said the oft-injured center will have his minutes restricted for the first part of the season.
"I don't really know if there's a solid number," Brown told The Philadelphia Inquirer. "If you were to choose a number, it would be somewhere like in the teens."
Despite playing in just 31 games during his first three years in the NBA, Embiid recently signed a five-year, $146.5 million extension due to his untapped potential, if he can stay healthy.
Embiid is not thrilled to once again have a minutes restriction placed on him by the training staff and will lobby Brown to play more in close games.
"I got a voice," Embiid said. "If I feel great and my body feels great and my knee is fine, I should play 30 minutes or more. I definitely have my opinion on that."
Until Embiid's minutes increase, Jahlil Okafor will likely receive a lot of playing time at center.
