Rumor Central: D.J. Augustin aims to improve from last season

Orlando Magic backup point guard D.J. Augustin did not perform up to his expectations last season, and heading into the 2017-18 regular season the nine-year veteran is determined to play better.

"It definitely sucked," Augustin told the Orlando Sentinel. "It's something that I don't want to be a part of going into this year. We all feel the same way."

Augustin believes having continuity with the head coach will be a plus for him and his teammates. Augustin has played for seven NBA teams, including the Magic, over the last four years.

"It’s tough when you’re changing coaches, changing systems," Augustin said. "We're playing a different way this year than we did last year. I just feel more comfortable, and I think that's [the same] for everybody."

Augustin, who turns 30 next month, is signed through the 2019-20 season and will earn $7.25 million each year.

Entering the 2017-18 regular season, Augustin projects to be second on Orlando's point-guard depth chart behind Elfrid Payton and ahead of Shelvin Mack.
