Once the Brooklyn Nets have the $106.5 million offer sheet to Otto Porter Jr. removed from their salary cap, the team will complete the trade sending center Justin Hamilton to the Toronto Raptors for forward DeMarre Carroll and two draft picks.

At that time, the Nets will have $16.5 million remaining under the salary cap and can increase that amount to $21.3 million by releasing forward Quincy Acy and guards Spencer Dinwiddie and Archie Goodwin.

The Nets and Los Angeles Lakers have been linked with free-agent guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, and there could be some movement this week.

“What we’re going to do is we’re evaluating all possible scenarios," Nets general manager Sean Marks told the New York Post. "So, for us, if the right deal comes along -- and I hate to be vague -- but if the right deal comes along that uses all of our cap space, we could jump at it. If it doesn’t and we take this cap space into the season, I’m excited about that. Who knows what’s going to come along? Again, just having that flexibility to be able to do that is nice."

Caldwell-Pope is an unrestricted free agent after the Detroit Pistons pulled their qualifying offer to the four-year NBA veteran last week once it became apparent they no longer had the cap flexibility to match an offer sheet since Detroit has a hard cap for the upcoming season.

The teams that still have significant salary-cap room to offer Caldwell-Pope a big contract, beside the Nets and Lakers, include Atlanta, Philadelphia and Phoenix.

"We’re still at that stage where you’d hate to say 'we’re only going to look at this' or 'we’re only going to look at that position,'" Marks said. "For us, who knows what’s going to come our way? We’ve got to stay pretty fluid in who we’re looking at and explore all our different options."

Currently, the Nets projected starting backcourt is Jeremy Lin and D'Angelo Russell.
