Kaleb Kohn, Madison West High School

Year: Senior.

Sports: Track and field, cross country, hockey.

Sports highlights: Kaleb is a three-time letterwinner in track and field, competing in the 400-meter dash, 800- and 1,600-meter runs and 3,200-meter relay. He’s a three-time state placewinner in the 3,200 relay and a three-time all-Big Eight Conference selection in track and field. He ran on the Madison West 3,200 relays that placed fourth his junior year, fourth his sophomore season and ninth his freshman year at the WIAA Division 1 state track and field meet.

He is competing in cross country for the first time as a senior. He competed for the Madison Capitols hockey program the past three years, but will play for the Madison Regents’ hockey program his senior year.

Pre-game ritual or superstition: I lay in bed the night before a competition listening to a specific playlist visualizing my success the next day.

Cumulative GPA: 3.67.

Favorite subject/class: English.

Favorite teacher: Mrs. Janke.

Quick quote: “Competing in sports has taught me to never give up no matter what and to always be a good sportsman to your opponent. I’ve also learned to be confident in myself but not boast because there is always someone out there better than you.”

Three words to describe me are: Kind, competitive, hard-working.

I got my start in sports: Learning to skate when I was five years old.

I wish I could play: Basketball.

My most memorable moments in sports: Placing third at the state track and field meet in the 3,200-meter relay.

I like about high school sports: The atmosphere and teamwork and unity amongst one another.

I enjoy running because: You’re not only battling opponents trying to outrun them, but you’re battling within yourself to not give up and to keep pushing through pain to go faster.

Advice: “Don’t be scared to get out of your comfort zone. To meet new people, take some challenging classes and join a club at your new high school.”

My role models are: My mom, Sarah, and Sidney Crosby.

Most inspirational teammate: Daniel Jacobs.

My family also includes: My sister, Jada, dad, Jared, and my dad’s wife, Bobbi.

This and that: I work at Jersey Mike’s Subs … member of DECA … volunteer preparing food for the homeless … member of Honor Roll.

Hobbies: Running, playing video games, playing hockey.

Post-high school plans: Attend college to major in Business and possibly run competitively.
