Dolphins keep continuity on offensive line by re-signing Jermon Bushrod

The Miami Dolphins re-signed veteran guard Jermon Bushrod, the team announced Thursday. Bushrod started 16 games for Miami last season.

Terms: N/A

ESPN 150 rank: No. 87

Grade: C-plus -- Bushrod joined the team before last season on a one-year deal and immediately brought veteran leadership in the locker room. He is a trusted veteran of coach Adam Gase, who also coached Bushrod in Chicago, and it’s clear he still has something left in the tank.

What it means: Bushrod is the favorite to start once again at right guard. The Dolphins will try to ride Bushrod for one more season. Despite a few bad moments, he did mostly a good job last season, particularly in the running game in helping tailback Jay Ajayi produce his first Pro Bowl season.

What’s the risk: Bushrod is 32 and has a lot of wear and tear. Bushrod played through ailments last season, but you never know when he might hit that physical wall. Miami’s guard position isn’t deep or strong. The team signed Bushrod and Ted Larsen in free agency, who are currently favorites as starters. But the Dolphins may want to do more in the draft if they want to feel fully comfortable at the position.
