The Miami Dolphins have agreed to terms with veteran tight end Anthony Fasano. This is a homecoming of sorts for Fasano, who played five seasons with the Dolphins from 2008-12. Terms: One year, $3 million. ESPN 150 rank: Unranked  Grade: C. The Dolphins lost out on re-signing backup tight end Dion Sims, who was their first option. The two sides have negotiated for weeks unsuccessfully, and Sims reportedly is expected to sign with the Chicago Bears. Fasano was Miami's backup plan. He is still a strong blocker but had only eight receptions for 83 yards last season.
What it means: Fasano will join another veteran tight end in Julius Thomas. Fasano will likely do most of the dirty work as the No. 2 blocking tight end, while Thomas does his damage in the passing game. Fasano remains one of the best in-line blockers at tight end in the NFL, which bodes well for Dolphins Pro Bowl running back Jay Ajayi. Look for Fasano to contribute immediately to Miami's power rushing attack. What's the risk: Fasano is 32 and closer to the end of his career than the beginning. This is more of a short-term signing to fix the blocking tight end position that Sims vacated.
