Chargers' Anthony Lynn checks out Josh Rosen at UCLA pro day

LOS ANGELES -- While quiet on the free agency front, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Anthony Lynn took time out of his day Thursday to watch talented UCLA draft hopeful quarterback Josh Rosen at his local pro day.

Lynn was part of a star-studded NFL cast that included Denver Broncos head coach Vance Joseph, New Orleans Saints head coach Sean Payton and Cincinnati Bengals head coach Marvin Lewis.

Along with those head coaches, top personnel men on hand included the Broncos’ John Elway, New York Jets GM Mike Maccagnan and Atlanta Falcons GM Thomas Dimtroff.

Jets offensive coordinator Jeremy Bates and Broncos offensive coordinator Bill Mussgrave also attended the throwing session.

Rosen did not disappoint, showing good accuracy and arm strength under windy conditions on UCLA’s practice field.

“I thought it went really well,” Rosen said. “I was confident in how I threw. My receivers made some great catches, made me look good here and there, and I couldn’t have asked for a better day. I mean, I would have liked a couple throws back, but for the majority of them I couldn’t have asked for a better day.”

Former NFL quarterback and ESPN analyst Matt Hasselbeck, who also was on hand, echoed Rosen’s comments. ESPN’s Alden Gonzalez also provided more specifics about the workout.

“He’s a natural thrower,” Hasselbeck said. “And he’s got great arm strength. He’s got better arm strength than a lot of quarterbacks who have won Super Bowls, so arm strength is not a question for me.”

Rosen said he has a couple of private workouts scheduled with teams, both in Los Angeles and on the road, but would not divulge who those teams were.

“I thought he did really well,” said John Beck of 3DQB, who’s been training Rosen in Southern California to get him ready for the pre-draft process. “I think he had a plan for what he wanted to come out and show, and I think he executed that really well.

“When we came out it was pretty windy. But when you look at some of the teams that are looking at him and just the NFL in general, when you go to some of those teams in the Northeast, you’ve got to be able to deal with wind.”

Along with Lynn, other Chargers coaches on hand included offensive line coach Pet Meyer, tight ends coach Rip Scherer, running backs coach Alfredo Roberts and assistant offensive line coach Mark Ridgely.

Meyer was present to take a closer look at projected first-round prospect tackle Kolton Miller. And Roberts’ son, Austin Roberts, is a draft-eligible tight end at UCLA who also participated in the pro day.
