Chiefs still have needs after agreeing with Sammy Watkins, Anthony Hitchens

After agreeing to contract terms with wide receiver Sammy Watkins and linebacker Anthony Hitchens, the Kansas City Chiefs crossed a couple of their bigger needs off their list. But as the Chiefs wait for the start of the free-agent signing period on Wednesday afternoon, they still have some items remaining on that list:

Backup quarterback. Once the trade of Alex Smith to Washington becomes official, Patrick Mahomes will be the only QB under contract to the Chiefs. They’re going to want a veteran rather than a draft pick filling that role.

Nose tackle. The Chiefs are left with little here, assuming they lose Bennie Logan to free agency.

Defensive back. The Chiefs are thin in starter quality at safety after releasing Ron Parker. They would feel better about where they stand at cornerback if they add another capable player to a group that includes Steven Nelson, Kendall Fuller and David Amerson.
