Patriots backup QB Brian Hoyer is 2-2 as starter against Jaguars

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars are expecting to face Tom Brady in Sunday's AFC Championship Game.

They've prepared all week for the New England Patriots quarterback even after finding out Brady suffered some kind of right hand injury during Wednesday's practice, and coach Doug Marrone said Friday, "Tommy will play. We know that."

However, if the Patriots do have to rely on backup Brian Hoyer, he has had some success against the Jaguars in his career, including throwing for more than 300 yards against them last season in Chicago. That obviously didn't come against the kind of defense the Jaguars have put on the field this season, but Hoyer is 2-2 as a starter against the Jaguars.

He beat the Jaguars twice as Houston's starter in 2015, throwing for 542 yards and four touchdowns with one interception. The Texans outscored the Jaguars 61-26 in those games.

Hoyer lost a 24-6 game to the Jaguars as Cleveland's starter in 2014. He completed only 39 percent of his passes for 215 yards with an interception in that game. The Jaguars beat Hoyer and the Bears last season 17-16 despite the fact that he threw for 302 yards. The victory wasn't sealed until cornerback Jalen Ramsey knocked away a fourth-down pass to Alshon Jeffery with 57 seconds to play.
