The Indianapolis Colts re-signed Adam Vinatieri, who played the past 12 years for the Colts. Here’s a closer look at the signing:

Grade: A-minus. An argument could be made that Vinatieri was the Colts’ MVP in what was a disappointing 4-12 season for them in 2017. Even at the age of 45, Vinatieri made 85.3 percent of his field goal attempts (29-of-34) last season. Two of those misses came in a blizzard in Buffalo and another two came in the wind and rain of Baltimore.

What it means: Vinatieri, who is heading his 13th season with the Colts, will likely break Morten Andersen’s all-time scoring record at some point next season barring an injury. Vinatieri is only 58 points away from breaking Andersen’s scoring record of 2,544 points. Vinatieri has scored at least 58 points in 21 of 22 NFL seasons. He only played in six games in the one season that he didn’t have at least 58 points.

What’s the risk: Just Vinatieri's age. He’ll be 46 years old by the end of next season. He’s made at least 85 percent of his field goal attempts in seven of the past eight seasons.
