The Indianapolis Colts have wasted no time seeking permission to interview candidates for their head coaching vacancy after firing Chuck Pagano on Sunday. They have received permission to talk to New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels, Carolina Panthers defensive coordinator Steve Wilks, Houston Texans defensive coordinator Mike Vrabel, Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Matt Nagy and Seattle Seahawks defensive coordinator Kris Richard.

With a healthy Andrew Luck, the Colts job would be one of the more attractive openings in the NFL. But nobody knows if that will be the case until the quarterback starts his throwing regimen at some point.

Here's a look at one of the candidates:

Name: Kris Richard

Age: 38

Alma mater: University of Southern California

Experience: Graduate assistant, USC (2008-09); Assistant defensive backs coach, Seattle Seahawks (2010); Cornerbacks coach, Seattle (2011); Defensive backs coach, Seattle (2012-14); Defensive coordinator, Seattle (2015-present).

Connection to Colts: Colts Vice President of Player Personnel Ed Dodds was part of the Seahawks organization in different roles from 2007-16.

Status: Richard is reportedly interviewing with the Colts on Friday.

Strengths: Richard is trying to following in the footsteps of Gus Bradley and Dan Quinn by becoming the third straight Seahawks defensive coordinator to land a head coaching job. Richard has spent a lot of time helping mold Seattle's Legion of Boom defense, which features Pro Bowlers Richard Sherman, Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. Seattle's defense, despite being depleted by injuries, finished 11th in the NFL this season. They finished fifth in 2016 and second during Richard's first season as coordinator in 2015. The Seahawks held the Colts to 237 total yards while also getting three sacks and forcing two turnovers in their Week 4 victory.

"I mean, he's just meticulous, incredibly strict about the details," Sherman said in a 2015 Seattle Times article about Richard. "And understanding the details and the nuances of the game that allow someone to play fast. Everybody can study film, but some people can study film and not know what they are looking at or what you should be looking. He does a great job of explaining what you should be looking for or giving you situations and the plays that (the opponent) runs on a weekly basis so that when we get out on the field on Sundays we play fast."

What others are saying about Richard: "Kris Richard's defensive philosophy was greatly shaped by playing and coaching under Pete Carroll. He's also cut from the same cloth as Carroll in terms of his approach to the media. Like most coaches, he won't give too much away in terms of anything that could be viewed as sensitive information, but he's affable, never combative and always respectful of his media obligations." -- ESPN Seahawks reporter Brady Henderson
