GREEN BAY, Wis. – There’s another story to Aaron Rodgers' draft-day slide in 2005.

It isn't the cleaning crew in the green room giving him “the stink eye” as they cleared tables and stacked chairs around him while he waited.

It isn't the TV cameras showing him after each selection came off the board, leaving him as the last player on site to be drafted.

It isn't the relief he felt when the Green Bay Packers finally picked him at No. 24.

All those tales have been told, including last year in ESPN’s oral history of Rodgers’ draft-day experience.

This one, however, is about a flip phone.

And not just any flip phone.

It was, as Rodgers put it, the coolest mobile phone of 2005 -- the Motorola Razr.

“I was 21 [years old] when I got drafted, and they gave me a free phone, which at the time was a Razr,” Rodgers recalled recently. “Remember the Razr? It’s like the coolest thing possible. It had a 917 number, so I was like, ‘I’ve got a New York Razr phone. This is pretty awesome.’”

Rodgers didn’t say whether that was the phone that rang when the Packers were on the clock and he was the last player remaining in the green room. He’s an iPhone user now, but Rodgers will never forget the Razr.

“There’s so many things we did leading up to that in the two days before the draft,” Rodgers said. “It was fun to get to know the other five guys who were in the green room. It’s way different than it is now. I think it’s great that there’s a night dedicated to the first round. It’s also tough on the guys who go and don’t get picked. I went through four-and-a-half hours of waiting, which was important for me in the long run. My favorite memory is obviously hearing my name picked in the green room and getting out of there so they could finish cleaning the room, which they had already started doing and then shaking commissioner [Paul] Tagliabue’s hand and knowing I was going to be heading to Green Bay the next day.”

There's no word yet on whether the 22 players invited to Thursday’s first round of the draft will receive a free phone -- flip variety or otherwise.
