Eliot Wolf has options from Oakland to Cleveland with Green Bay in between

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- Eliot Wolf has options.

The Green Bay Packers director of football operations, who was in Cleveland Tuesday to interview with Browns general manager John Dorsey, also has an offer to join the Oakland Raiders’ personnel department in a high-ranking position, a source told ESPN.

Wolf, 35, interviewed for the Packers GM job that went to his long-time co-worker Brian Gutekunst, who has offered Wolf the chance to be his “right-hand man.”

The Browns already have hired one former Packers’ personnel executive, Alonzo Highsmith. Dorsey worked with Highsmith and Wolf in Green Bay before he left to become the Kansas City Chiefs general manager in 2013. Dorsey was hired by the Browns last month.

Wolf also worked with Raiders GM Reggie McKenzie, another longtime former Packers scout. McKenzie turned down a chance to interview with the Packers last week in order to remain with the Raiders and work with new coach Jon Gruden.

Gutekunst hoped that it would not be difficult for Wolf to return to the Packers despite not getting the GM job.

“I would just say this about Eliot, obviously he was part of the process, one of our candidates,” Packers president Mark Murphy said. “He’s going to be a general manager someday. He’s extremely talented, and I have high respect for him and I really believe he’s got a great career ahead of him.”

But Wolf, the son of former Packers GM Ron Wolf, might view it as a sign that it’s time to leave. The Packers previously blocked him from interviewing for at least one GM job, but then did not hire him when theirs came open.

"At least he had the opportunity to interview for it," Ron Wolf told ESPN shortly after Gutekunst, another one of his protégés, was hired. "Obviously the people up there don't think he's worthy or they would've hired him. End of discussion."
