The Detroit Lions keep adding to their coaching staff.

On Friday, the team announced the hiring of Bo Davis as their defensive line coach, replacing Kris Kocurek, who departed for Miami earlier this offseason. Based on the listings on the Lions' website, it would appear Davis should complete the majority of bigger-position coaching staff hires under first-year head coach Matt Patricia.

Davis is an intriguing hire for Detroit. He was considered one of the best defensive line coaches in college football when he resigned from Alabama in 2016 after alleged NCAA violations. He spent part of 2016, according to AL.com, working for a trucking company and as an intern with the Jaguars before getting back into coaching last season at UTSA. Davis had a show-cause ruling placed against him by the NCAA because of the violations at Alabama. The Saints also apparently interviewed him last year for a spot on their staff, according to the Advocate.

While Davis was at Alabama, he coached current Lions defensive tackle A'Shawn Robinson, who was a second-round pick in the 2016 draft. Under Davis, Robinson became an Outland Trophy finalist and first-team All-American. In 2015 at Alabama, he helped the best run defense in the nation.

Last year, he coached Marcus Davenport, a defensive end considered a possible first-round pick and a player who has been paired with the Lions in some mock drafts.

An LSU graduate, Davis has been with Nick Saban for the majority of his career, joining him in either a strength-and-conditioning or coaching role at LSU, with the Dolphins and at Alabama. He also spent time at Texas.

Davis is the latest hire in a completely revamped defensive coaching staff. Besides Patricia, the Lions brought in Paul Pasqualoni as defensive coordinator and Brian Stewart to coach defensive backs. They also moved Al Golden from tight ends to linebackers. Golden had spent the majority of his time as a position coach in his career working with linebackers.
