Taylor Decker: 'It was good to get back out there'

DETROIT -- Overheard in the locker room following the Lions' 38-24 win over Cleveland to push Detroit to 5-4 heading into Chicago next week.

Offensive tackle Taylor Decker on playing for the first time this year: It was good to get back out there. It had been a long, long time since I’ve been able to play football since Seattle last year since I’ve actually strapped it up. Five months since I’ve done any football stuff, so it was good to get back out there. It was good to get my feet wet, kind of get settled back in and, more than anything, be with these guys out there. You know, it’s a group of guys that I like a lot. I enjoy playing with them, they’re fun to be around and it was a fun win today.

Lions cornerback Nevin Lawson on his fumble return for a touchdown: It was just a play I felt like I had to make. At first I was going to try to go low and tackle his legs but I was like, man, might as well try to strip this ball. You know, he’s a big dude, so I just went for the ball and it hit the ground and I bounced on it. Then I was like, ‘Oh, shoot. Nobody touched me.’ So I got up and the first thing that happened, I think 29 [Duke Johnson], he hit me and I was like, ‘Oh, I’m still up.’ So I just ran to the end zone and it happened. I’m just thankful and I just wanted to make a play, you know what I’m saying? I had a rough first quarter, probably the worst first quarter of my career, period, from pee wee, you know what I’m saying? But I just knew I had to go out there and make a play. I’m blessed that I got encouraging coaches, encouraging players and I’m thankful for my position coach. You know, I just remember him telling me after that first quarter, ‘Man, don’t worry about that. There’s a bunch of plays to be made out there.’ I just went out there and kept telling myself, ‘Man, keep fighting. The team needs you. Make a play.'

Offensive lineman Corey Robinson on moving to guard from tackle Sunday. He hadn't played guard since junior year of high school: Yeah, I’ve always kind of had that in the back of my mind because I don’t ever want to be not ready for a situation or an opportunity. So I always kind of prepare myself mentally. Coach does a good job of making sure we learn all the positions so we can go in any position and perform."

Coach Jim Caldwell on lining Eric Ebron, who caught a touchdown Sunday, out wide: Yeah, he’s got, obviously, and everybody knows that he’s an unusual talent in that regard because of the fact that he’s a big guy that can run. You have to figure out how you’re going to treat him. Whether you’re going to treat him that you typically cover those kinds of guys with linebacker-type guys or strong safeties, and when he’s playing well, he can create mismatches. When he’s not playing well, then obviously they win in that regard. But he played well.

Caldwell on his failed ball-spot challenge: It’s just me, plain and simple. I shouldn’t have thrown the flag. I threw the flag, it’s a challenge. That’s all you have to know, that’s all that counts. I make all those decisions, those things come through me, by me. That was my fault, it was a problem.

Quarterback Matthew Stafford on what he was thinking during Detroit's 10-point deficit: I’ve played a lot of football in my life, I’ve had a lot of bad situations. I knew that there was a whole lot more time left and sometimes when that happens too, lots of times I’m down 10 with a whole lot less time left than that. A lot of football to be played and we had to make some adjustments. Once we made some adjustments, we went out and played a whole lot better.
