After snapping a losing streak, the Broncos don't want to be done at one

ENGLEWOOD, Colo. -- The Denver Broncos got a much-needed win over the Arizona Cardinals, one that snapped the team's four-game losing streak and gave it a reprieve from the growing migraine the season had become.

Now comes the hard part.

"We have to do something from here," linebacker Todd Davis said. "... We got the win and it was just a glimpse of what we can do. But it's just one and we don't want just one, we want to put something together and be the team we know we are."

After watching video from the win, coach Van Joseph said Friday, "We’re 3-4, we're not a team that's rolling right now."

As much distaste as the current Broncos have for talking about last season, it does provide a template of what they're up against in the quest to do some of the things they've consistently said they're good enough to do -- win on the road and, at least, stay around the postseason conversation.

Last season their losing streak reached eight games before the Broncos were finally able to end it with a Week 14 victory over the New York Jets. The Broncos won the following week, against Indianapolis, then talked of ending a dismal season on a good note and then promptly stumbled through two ugly losses to close out a 5-11 year.

That's the comparison for this team. It was the comparison, after a 2-0 start, then four losses and it will be the comparison a week from Sunday when the Broncos play in Arrowhead Stadium against the Kansas City Chiefs.

"It's a whole other year, this is a totally different team, we have a totally different mindset, we have a totally different mentality," linebacker Von Miller said. "I like where we're at right now, we have to just keep pushing."

One of the items that was clearly a topic of conversation in the locker room after the 45-10 win over the Arizona Cardinals was keeping the edge the Broncos clearly had in a short week leading up to Thursday night's game. With only three days of practices, the Broncos did not have a padded practice and essentially had what Joseph called "jog-throughs."

But despite the desire to limit the contact so the team could both recover from the previous game and prepare for the Cardinals, Miller said the practices were "still pretty chippy." And Miller said in the locker room Thursday night, "I do like to see that, we need to keep on doing that."

Said nose tackle Domata Peko Sr.: "I think it should be the start of something. ... I've said we just needed one [win], we just need to get one back to get the wheels turning. Now the wheels are turning, the wheels are going to be turning, can't wait to take these wheels to K.C. and get this going man."

The Chiefs have already beaten the Broncos, in Week 4, but Denver did hold Patrick Mahomes & Co. to a season-low 13 points midway through the fourth quarter while the Broncos had a 10-point lead. The Chiefs then scored touchdowns on back-to-back possessions. But this is a team that is 2-9 in road games since the start of last season, including Thursday night's win, and doesn't have two consecutive home games for the remainder of the season.

"We have a big game next Sunday at K.C.," Joseph said. "... But, when you win in this league, you have this feeling that you can't lose again, and when you lose, it's really opposite. You feel like you can't win again. So, for our football team, winning this game was important."
