Watch a 6-foot-5, 298-pound Cowboys O-lineman box jump his way to fame

FRISCO, Texas – Connor Williams wasn’t looking to go viral. He never thought there would be more than 300,000 views of a 4-second clip of him doing a box jump.

Welcome to the Dallas Cowboys.

“I do workouts like that all the time,” Williams said. “I just didn’t know it was going to blow up.”

At 6-foot-5 and 298 pounds, Williams, the Cowboys’ second-round pick and projected starter at left guard, should not make a box jump look so easy. He wasn’t sure how high it actually was, and he has jumped higher than that without somebody videotaping him.

Zack Martin, the Cowboys’ Pro Bowl right guard, had not seen Williams’ box jump when asked last week. He likely can do something that athletically impressive as well, but he wasn’t about to seek out the Twitter feed either.

“You don’t box jump to block defensive linemen,” Martin said. “I’m sure he’ll be ready to go and I’m looking forward to meeting him. But that’s not really what we’re worried about.”

The rookies will be around the veterans for the first time starting Monday in Phase 2 of the offseason program after completing their three-day rookie orientation on Sunday.

Williams said there is a method to the box-jump madness.

“I mean I like to work a lot of single-leg squats and explosion,” he said, “just because the O-lineman, you have to be able to explode off the ball and use your hips.”
