LAKE FOREST, Ill. -- The verdict is in on Chicago Bears rookie Tarik Cohen's 21-yard touchdown pass.

“A-plus,” Bears quarterback Mitchell Trubisky said Wednesday's of the running back's throw. “Really impressive spiral, especially with the gloves on.”

Cohen has been Mr. Everything for the Bears since the club drafted him in the fourth round out of North Carolina A&T.

Cohen -- at 5-foot-6, the shortest player to throw an NFL touchdown pass since 1934 -- has rushed for 226 yards (4.5 yards per carry), caught 26 passes for 158 yards and a touchdown, returned punts and kickoffs and lined up at quarterback to run the Wildcat.

But it’s Cohen’s touchdown pass in Chicago’s 27-24 overtime victory in Baltimore that continues to have people buzzing.

“Dang, you guys can’t get enough of this,” Trubisky laughed. “I talked about it after the game. [Bears offensive coordinator] Dowell [Loggains] was saying it was the best pass of the game. I’m like, ‘All right, geez, let him play quarterback, then.’

“It was awesome. Tarik made a throw like that earlier in I think training camp or something. So it wasn’t surprising at all. I was asking for the play. We were getting down there. They were in that two-hot shell. A good way to get them out of it is to run the ball and then a little trickeration. So a little toss play. He threw a dime ball. I love how he was fading away on it and celebrating on the 50-yard line. Zach Miller made a great catch. Tarik’s a special player and it was an awesome throw.”

Trubisky said he’s not surprised Cohen has managed to handle such a heavy workload.

“He is a very special and versatile player,” Trubisky said. “I think a lot of it comes from the type of person he is, his personality and how he’s confident within himself. He’s able to take on that load. I think just coming from college they depended on him a lot to do a whole different types of things, so him coming here, we’re just trying to get him as many ways as possible and just make plays and keep the defense honest with a halfback toss pass. We need to do those types of things with everyone else. If everyone just takes more responsibility, it’ll make it easier on everyone else and we’re able to get better as a team.”

Loggains -- who's also 5-foot-6 and played quarterback in college at Arkansas -- is equally impressed.

“I’ve never thrown a pass that accurate,” Loggains said. “That was incredible. Tarik, how about that? We were kidding around in our offensive team meeting today, it was the best ball thrown all day.

“Tarik is such a little talented dude, he can do so many different things and beat you in so many different ways, and we’re really glad to have him.”
