Jared Veldheer, Earl Watford injuries force Cardinals to revamp O-line again

TEMPE, Ariz. -- Just when the Arizona Cardinals' offensive line was finding a groove, it'll be reshuffled yet again this week against the Washington Redskins.

The news Monday that left tackle Jared Veldheer will be put on injured reserve because of a cracked ankle and right guard Earl Watford will miss an undetermined amount of time with a high ankle sprain was another shot to an already depleted unit. Veldheer will be the third starting offensive lineman to go on IR this season for the Cardinals, who have now had six offensive linemen miss games.

The Cardinals plan to start rookie Will Holden at left tackle and Evan Boehm again at right guard. Boehm started the first five games there before he was replaced by Watford in Week 6.

"We'll probably start there," coach Bruce Arians said, "and see what else is available."

The Cardinals also promoted tackle/guard Vinston Painter to the active roster.

The latest edition of the offensive line will be the Cardinals' seventh starting combination this season, with four coming in the first four weeks. Arizona will play its fourth left tackle this week and third right guard. They have also used four left guards and two right tackles.

The Cardinals have rushed for more than 100 yards in each of the past three weeks. They ran for 100 yards just twice in the first 10 games -- both times when Adrian Peterson had more than 100 yards individually.

"(Offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin) has done a hell of a job," Arians said. "It's not easy to go through that many players and still be able to run the ball as effectively as we have the last couple weeks."
