TEMPE, Ariz. -- The Jared Veldheer Experiment is over. Veldheer is going home. Well, at least in the football sense. After spending the first nine games of the season at right tackle, Veldheer will move to left tackle starting Sunday, Arizona Cardinals coach Bruce Arians announced Friday. The decision to move Veldheer back to his natural position was a direct result of left tackle D.J. Humphries suffering an MCL sprain and dislocating his kneecap. “He'll be our best left tackle now,” Arians said. In theory, at least if history has any say, Veldheer should begin thriving again. He struggled in his move to right tackle to start the season. He had finally gotten to a point where he stopped thinking and just played, offensive coordinator Harold Goodwin said recently. Veldheer allowed two sacks, two hits and 15 hurries in his first three games at right tackle, according to Pro Football Focus. Since then, he's allowed one sack, three hits and 10 hurries in his last six games. For the season, he's allowed 33 total pressures -- sixth most among tackles. But moving back to left tackle, the position he's played since high school, should yield better results for not just Veldheer but the Cardinals, so long as Veldheer doesn't get caught in a bind undoing everything he's worked to change the last seven months. At left tackle last season, Veldheer allowed 21 total pressures -- 13th least among all tackles -- one sack, three hits and 17 hurries before going on injured reserve in late October with a torn triceps.
