Ateneo-Philippines blasts Indonesia with strong second half

The Ateneo-Philippines launched a spirited second-half rally to take down Indonesia, 89-78, in the 40th William Jones Cup Thursday at the Xinzhuang Gymnasium in Taiwan.

Isaac Go waxed hot from downtown to propel the Blue Eagles to their third victory in five outings.

Go nailed 6-of-7 triple attempts en route to 22 points, to go with four rebounds, two assists, and two steals. Patrick Maagdenberg was also productive off the bench as he finished with 14 markers.

After trailing by three at the halftime break, the Blue Eagles came out with a strong 35-point showing in the third quarter, while holding off the Indonesians to 18. They snatched the lead courtesy of back-to-back triples from Matt Nieto, 47-46, early in the period.

With Go at the forefront, Ateneo continued to pounce on Indonesia's defense to carry a 14-point cushion at the end of three quarters. As the Blue Eagles sustained their crisp execution on both ends, Indonesia no longer recovered in the final frame.

Angelo Kouame and Thirdy Ravena finished in double-digits with 14 points apiece while also combining for 15 rebounds.

The Blue Eagles won the rebounding battle, gaining a 16-9 advantage in offensive boards. They also distributed the ball well, assisting on 23 of their 30 field goals. Tyler Tio dished the most dimes with six, followed by Ravena with five.

Ateneo will take on Lithuania on Thursday, July 19, at 5 p.m.
