TNT outlasts Columbian in overtime, breaks out of slump

The TNT KaTropa snapped their three-game losing streak with a 118-114 overtime win over the Columbian Dyip in the 2018 PBA Governors' Cup on Sunday.

Jayson Castro scattered 25 points, six rebounds and seven assists, while Terrence Romeo dropped 22 markers and six dimes.

The Dyip were trailing by seven, 84-77, at the end of three quarters. Columbian then opened the fourth period on a 15-5 run to take a three-point edge after two free throws from McCarthy. Both teams exchanged baskets before TNT went back on top by three after a layup from Kelly Williams, 4:12 remaining in the period.

Jerramy King drained a triple to tie the game at 99-all before Terrence Romeo's bucket gave the KaTropa a 101-99 lead. King again knocked down a trey which Romeo answered with his own as TNT remained in front, 104-103, 2:19 left in the game. Columbian turned the ball over on their possession before RR Pogoy's triple made it a four-point game, 107-103, 1:10 to go. But the Dyip were able to score the game's next four points to knot the score again at 107-all, 12 ticks left. TNT had a chance to win the game but Romeo missed on his attempt, forcing overtime.

In the extra session, TNT took a three-point edge after Jayson Castro's triple, 115-112, 2:22 left on the clock. Akeem Wright's layup cut the lead to one, but Romeo also scored on a layup to keep the KaTropa in front, 117-114, 58 seconds remaining.

The Dyip had a chance to tie the game but Russel Escoto misfired on a three-point attempt. The KaTropa, however, turned the ball over on the next play, giving the ball back to Columbian, which called a timeout 10 seconds left in the game. Unfortunately for the Dyip, Wright was called for a dribbling violation as TNT went on to snag the win.

King led Columbian, which has yet to score a victory in the season-ending conference, with 26 points.

EXTRA DRIBBLES

Assistant coach Eric Gonzales called the shots for TNT because head coach Nash Racela was put on leave by the TNT management.

TNT import Stacy Davis didn't start the game. He only played 22 minutes, finishing with 11 points and four boards.

The KaTropa attempted 39 shots from beyond the arc, making 16 of them for a 41-percent three-point shooting clip.
