Caster Semenya sets South African record at Continental Cup

Caster Semenya smashed another South African record on Saturday, as she won the silver medal for the African team in the 400m Women at the IAAF Continental Cup in Ostrava, Czech Republic.

Semenya registered a time of 49.62 secondscrossing the line to set a new national mark, with Salwa Eid Naser of Bahrain winning gold for the Asia-Pacific squad in 49.32.

The President of Athletics South Africa, Aleck Skhosana, was at a loss for words as he congratulated Semenya.

"We run out of words in describing the incredible season Caster is having," he said.

"She has not let anything distract her from her goals and she has been tearing one national record after another and that's got to be applauded and celebrated.

"We congratulate her, her coach and all those who have had influence in this achievement."

South African long jumper Ruswahl Samaai also stepped on the podium for the African team, winning gold in his specialist discipline with a best attempt of 8.16m.

The silver medal went to Greece's Miltiadis Tentoglou for the European team with a jump of 8.00m.

The two-day IAAF Continental Cup will come to a close on Sunday.
