Nigeria increase African Athletics medal haul

Nigeria clinched their 14th medal at the African Athletics Championships in Asaba, following Kelechi Nwanaga's gold in the women's javelin on day four of the event.

Also winning medals for the host country on Saturday were Abejoye Oyeniyi, who won silver in the men's 110m hurdles, and bronze medalist Samuel Osadolor in the men's decathlon

In other events of the day, Divine Oduduru of Nigeria raced into the final of the men's 200m to be held on Sunday, while the Nigerian 4x400m relay men's team qualified for the final, placing third in the semi-final.

South Africa continued their impressive showing at the championship, Antonio Alkana emerged gold winner in the men's 110m hurdles, while the pair of Ncincihli Titi and Caster Semenya qualified respectively for the final of the men and women's 200m and 800m after emerging winners in their semi-final races.

Marie-Josee Ta Lou looks poised for a double gold, as she comfortably qualified for the women's 200m final in a time of 23.32s. Ghana's Janet Amponsah also raced to the final in same event, winning the second semi-final in 23.82s.
