Carlton sign Fasolo as AFL free agent

AFL

Carlton have signed Collingwood forward Alex Fasolo as an unrestricted free agent.

The league has awarded the Magpies a third-round draft pick (currently No.57) as compensation for losing Fasolo.

Fasolo was drafted with pick No. 45 in the 2010 draft then played 13 games, including the grand final, during an impressive debut season for Collingwood in 2011.

But he managed only one AFL match this year during the Magpies' march to the grand final.

Fasolo suffered a pre-season shoulder injury then was floored by an ankle syndesmosis injury during his comeback game in round nine.

Fasolo's status as an unrestricted free agent means the 26-year-old was free to join his club of choice.

"He'll add scoring power and valuable experience to our forward line," Carlton list manager Stephen Silvagni said of Fasolo, who has booted 133 goals from 101 games.

"We know Alex has had a few setbacks with injury.

"But with the club investing in its high-performance department and landing industry leader Andrew Russell, we're confident he'll be able to get the best out of Alex."
