Cats, Power swing changes for AFL clashes

Port Adelaide and Geelong have made big selection calls after their tight AFL losses as the battle for top-eight berths intensifies.

The Power reacted to their controversial Showdown loss by dropping Sam Powell-Pepper and Jack Hombsch for Saturday's must-win clash with West Coast.

Geelong axed four players for the MCG blockbuster on Saturday against arch-rivals Hawthorn.

Top side Richmond also swung five changes for their trip to the Gold Coast but for the Tigers it's loading up three weeks before the finals.

Arguably their most important move was to rest ruckman Toby Nankervis, with Ivan Soldo to play his first senior game since round 21 last season.

Premiership quartet Dion Prestia, Bachar Houli, Nathan Broad and Jack Graham are back from injury.

Jacob Townsend, Sam Lloyd, Connor Menadue and Liam Baker were dropped.

Dylan Shiel leads the inclusions for GWS and, as expected, injury-plagued Collingwood will have some respite with the return of forward Jordan De Goey.

The Power recalled Sam Gray, Dougal Howard and Aidyn Johnson.

Powell-Pepper had played every game since returning from his club and AFL suspensions earlier this season.

Hombsch also had played the last four games and youngster Riley Bonner, the third omission, has played 18 games in his breakout third season.

The Eagles brought in Brendon Ah Chee and Dom Sheed for suspended star Andrew Gaff and Will Schofield (hamstring).

Ninth-placed Geelong made five changes following the last-gasp loss to Richmond.

Jed Bews (shoulder) in unavailable and the Cats dropped Jackson Thurlow, Jamaine Jones, Jordan Cunico and Ryan Abbott.

Defender Tom Stewart and ruckman Rhys Stanley are big boosts and James Parsons, Quinton Narkle and Mark O'Connor also return.

Hawthorn will give Irishman Conor Nash his AFL debut and he replaces Brendan Whitecross (illness).

The embattled Suns made six changes for their clash with Richmond.

Captain Steven May and David Swallow lead the inclusions, with Jesse Joyce, Ben Ainsworth, Brayden Crossley and Jarryd Lyons also returning.

Peter Wright, Sean Lemmens and Jesse Lonergan are injured and the Suns left out Max Spencer, Jacob Dawson and Jacob Heron.

Shiel, Tim Taranto, Ryan Griffen and Sam Reid are handy inclusions for the Giants but Brett Deledio, Dawson Simpson, Toby Greene and Sam Taylor are injured for Saturday's game against Adelaide in Canberra.

The Crows recalled Kyle Cheney and Richard Douglas for injured duo Daniel Talia and Riley Knight.

Essendon are unchanged for Friday night's clash against St Kilda, who made six changes.

Ben Paton will make his AFL debut and the Saints recalled Bailey Rice, Ben Long, Lewis Pierce and Rowan Marshall.

Josh Battle and Tom Hickey are injured, Hunter Clark is ill and Luke Dunstan and Nick Coffield were dropped.

James Aish and Adam Oxley join De Goey as Collingwood's inclusions for the Etihad Stadium game on Saturday against Brisbane.

But the Pies lost Darcy Moore (hamstring), while fellow father-son recruits Callum Brown and Josh Daicos were dropped.

The Lions dropped Ryan Bastinac for Tom Cutler.
