Crows beat Power in last-gasp win

AFL

Adelaide's Josh Jenkins says his controversial match-winner in a three-point AFL triumph against Port Adelaide shouldn't have been awarded as a goal.

Jenkins booted three goals in a nerve-jangling 13.18 (96) to 14.9 (93) victory on Saturday at Adelaide Oval, which keeps the Crows in the finals race.

The Adelaide forward converted a snap shot with two-and-a-half minutes remaining to decide another cracking contest between the South Australian rivals.

Port appeared home late in the last term when Robbie Gray and Chad Wingard, who kicked four goals each, gave the Power a 10-point break.

But Adelaide's Eddie Betts and Jenkins responded in a frantic finale - Jenkins' snap was assessed by the video reviewer amid suggestions it brushed a goalpost.

After the score review, a goal was signalled - incorrectly, in Jenkins' view.

"My grandma raised me not to tell fibs. I think it hit the post," Jenkins told Fox Sports.

Adelaide remain alive as a finals chance, though they still must win their remaining three matches.

Midfielder Bryce Gibbs was among the best-afield in his 250th AFL game, collecting 29 disposals.

His teammate Rory Sloane was superb with two goals and 26 touches while Matt Crouch (35 possessions), emerging star Wayne Milera (22 disposals) and Rory Atkins (19 disposals) were prominent.

Port's Gray, Wingard and Jared Polec (24 possessions) were standouts for the Power, who slipped out of the top four.

Before a 50,377-strong crowd, both teams scored 5.3 in the breakneck opening quarter, with Adelaide's Jenkins scoring two and Port's second-gamer Kane Farrell booting three.

The attacking trend continued in the second stanza as Wingard and Gray scored majors to craft a nine-point halftime lead for the Power.

Scoring dried up in a torrid third term and Adelaide drew level late when Tom Lynch kicked a stunner - a 48m bomb on the run from near the boundary line.

Port held a one-point buffer at three quarter-time before Wingard and Gray again bobbed up, adding further goals for the Power to lead by 13 points.

But Crows Tom Doedee and Matt Crouch struck back, with Crouch converting a 45m set shot to give Adelaide a two-point lead 14 minutes into the final quarter.

Port's triple club champion Gray and the brilliant Wingard again struck back with majors for a 10-point break before Adelaide's late heroics from Betts and the controversial decider from Jenkins.
