Harris Andrews to miss another week for Brisbane Lions

AFL

Brisbane Lions defender Harris Andrews will have to wait at least another week to make his AFL return as he continues to recover from a severe concussion.

Vice-captain Andrews was left with brain bleeding last month after copping an elbow to the head from Jeremy Cameron in an ugly incident which earned the Greater Western Sydney star a five-week suspension.

The 21-year-old is on the mend and was running laps at the Gabba on Thursday but will not feature in their clash against Hawthorn on Saturday in Launceston.

Coach Chris Fagan is in no rush to bring him back until he is ready.

"He's progressing along well," Fagan told reporters.

"He's still got to go through all the tests to get the tick-off.

"He had the little bleed on the brain which needs to be clear, so there'll be a scan for that as well.

"He's obviously not going to be right for this weekend and we'll see how he progresses next week before we make any decisions."

Fagan said there were no long-term concerns over Andrews, who is being monitored by a neurosurgeon.

"We're just treating it like a normal concussion, so if he's given the OK to play and he feels confident then we'll go ahead with it," he said.

The Lions have recorded wins in their two matches without him, backing up their breakthrough victory away to Fremantle with a 65-point thumping of Carlton at the weekend.

It was the first time in more than three years they've recorded back-to-back wins.

If they can topple Hawthorn - the only other team they've beaten this year - it'll mark three wins in a row, something Brisbane hasn't achieved since 2013.

"Our test now is we've won two games in a row and can we produce another strong performance in the third," Fagan said.

"The Hawthorn that came out against us in round nine were pretty fierce in the first quarter and we were lucky to be as close as we were. We're expecting that ferocity and then some."
