Nat Fyfe, Robbie Gray and Tom Hawkins are among the smattering of stars named for Thursday night's inaugural AFLX tournament in Adelaide.
Collingwood, Geelong, Fremantle, Adelaide, Port Adelaide and West Coast will face off at Hindmarsh Stadium in the first of three round-robin tournaments.
Most clubs have opted for a youthful approach at the selection table for the league's new concept, which is designed to be a fast-paced game played on soccer-sized fields.
Final teams will consist of 10 players - seven on the field and three on the bench - with games played over two 10-minute halves.
In the absence of Travis Boak, Gray will skipper a Power side that also includes off-season recruits Jack Watts, Trent McKenzie and Jack Trengove.
Fyfe, Bradley Hill and Michael Walters headline the Dockers' squad, which also includes No. 2 draft pick Andrew Brayshaw.
Hawkins, Mitch Duncan, Daniel Menzel and Mark Blicavs form the experienced core of the Cats' squad, with superstars Gary Ablett, Patrick Dangerfield and Joel Selwood rested.
Defenders Jake Kelly and Andy Otten are the only two members of the Crows' grand final side to be picked.
"We're thinking it's an opportunity for a lot of our younger guys," coach Don Pyke said.
"And guys who didn't get to play a lot of AFL footy last year, to not only experience AFLX but to get a run under their belt and play for the footy club."
Adelaide father-son duo Jackson Edwards and Ben Jarman have also been named in an 18-man squad.
With skipper Scott Pendlebury rested, Steele Sidebottom will lead a Magpies' side that also includes the club's most recent first-round draft pick, Jaidyn Stephenson.
West Coast has named the most inexperienced squad with 46-gamer Liam Duggan to lead the side.
